Ideas for mapping
Feb 2 2010, 5:09 PM EST
i may as well get the ball rolling here if a can.i was trying to think about what we could use to show vunrability and stuff. i was looking at the catagories on the CSO website but i couldnt find many that jumped out at me apart maybe from socio-economic status. those unemployed or with jobs that would have a lower wage may not have the resources to react when a flood happens. it would be really good if we could get our hands on households with and without sufficiant insurance and stuff but im not too sure if that would be available. so what does everyone think?? ant suggestions??.... feel free to slate what i just put forward... ive thick skin its gfrand :) hahaha Do you find this valuable? |

Think the maps look really good so far. A nice intro before the more detailed stuff.

Good stuff. Maybe on the 2nd map you could remove most of the decimal places in the legend, just have it as eg. 12.05 rather than 12.05000000. I was talking to a guy today that works in Royal and Sun Alliance Insurance and he was saying there isn't any 'blacklisted areas' in Dublin in terms of flooding insurance and they just would add a massive loading rather than simply refuse to insure if there was a risk. I will try and get a bit more info off him but its highly unlikely they would divulge much info regarding a specific area. Do you find this valuable? |

yeah i know what you mean wit all the decimal places and stuff... the final maps will be a small bit different and stuff, they'll have the road networks and stuff on them (we forgot to put them on the big one) and also the island on the coast just below Howth (sp??) has to be clipped off as it messes wit the results a bit. but those maps are (in my opinion) a very good representation of what the final maps will look like
