Just uploading some of the email discussion we have had as a group on our plans. I put it up on this so others can add in if they want.
Sophie's Email:
I will have a look on the 1986 event, but obviously floods occured more along the upper Dodder than in the estuary, there is maybe not too many things to say. Let's see that... David and I are also going to meet Dr Mills on monday to speak about flood maps. It is actually very hard to find proper maps of events older than 2002. Does any of you know where we can find such documents ? We tried OPW, DCC, OSI and the UCD Library. I have attached with this mail the maps we've got for 2002.
An other question : what do you guys think about writting a small part of the development of Ringsend. I have several maps from 1700, 1837, 1860, and a few maps from the 20th century , where we can see how the area grew up along the river, and then how the vulnerability was set up with time. Waiting for any comments...

You could ask who built the walls that channel the river. I think this part of Dublin was owned by the Pembroke estate (maybe anyway). They owned a vast area out as far as Dundrum and Merrion. Their records are in the National Archives. You don't have to go there to find what's in them - they are on line if you look hard. you might find something to your advantage in them
